Each VEMUN committee will be addressed by a keynote speaker from the European Parliament Former Members Association.

We are honored to welcome Michael Hindley, Monica Baldi, Johan Nissinen, Alain Lamassoure and as keynote speaker Anne Marie Pellerin.

The EP to Campus programme allows our conference to benefit from the expertise and experience of former Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) who share their insights into how the EU institutions really work and into the factors that shape EU decision-making.

Monica Baldi – UNHRC

Monica Baldi, architect and urban planner, is Grand Officer of
Merit of the Italian Republic. She is Vice-President of the
European Parliament Former Members Association (FMA) and of ARS PACE. Ambassador of AWomen20 (G20). Resident in
Florence. Author. Former teacher in professional training courses. Deputy and Secretary of the Commission for Foreign and Community Affairs at the Chamber of Deputies from 2001 to 2006. MEP and Deputy President of the Committee for Culture, Youth, Education, Media and Sport from 1994 to 1999.
Baldi was Vice-President of the Red Cross of Pistoia and President of the associations: Pinocchio di Carlo Lorenzini, Pinocchioworld, Laurus and Professional Cycling Groups League. She is speaker and promoter of conferences on: international politics, cooperation and development, culture, urban planning, environment. She has always been committed to the defence of Human Rights and in particular for the Rights of Women. She is the co-author of the FMA publications produced in collaboration with the Historical Archives of the European Union: “Overcoming the Pandemic”, “Present Future of Europe” and “Participation in Europe”.


Alain Lamassoure – DSC

Alain Lamassoure, is an alumnus of the ENA (National School of Administration), Magistrate at the French Court of Auditors. Member of the French National Assembly (1986-1993) Minister for European Affairs, then Budget Minister (1993-1997). Member of the European Parliament (1999-2019). Chairman of the Budgets Control Committee, then of the Budgets Committee and of the temporary Committee on tax avoidance. Member of the Convention on the Future of Europe (2002-2003). Member of the High Level Group chaired by Mario Monti on Future Financing of the EU Budget (2017).

Michael Hindley

Michael Hindley – SPECPOL

Studied at London University, the Free University of West Berlin and Lancaster University. Michael was the Leader of a Regional Council in the UK and a Member of the European Parliament for three terms, where he was Vice-President of the External Economic Affairs Committee. He has been an Associate Professor at Georgetown University, Washington DC and a guest lecturer at several universities, including University of California, Berkeley; Greifwald and Gottingen Universities, Germany; Keio University Tokyo; Taras Schevchenko University, Kyiv; City University, Geneva. Michael has been an election observer for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in the countries of the former Soviet Union. He has also acted as an adviser to the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and as researcher for the Council of Europe. Michael writes frequently for the British and international press on politics and his book on EU/UK relations, “The Semi-Detached European” is on the syllabus of several universities. He is currently the Coordinator of the Former MEPs “European Parliament to campus” programme.


Johan Nissinen – ECOSOC

Johan Nissinen (born May 17, 1989) is a Swedish politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2022 to 2024. He was previously a member of the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) from 2014 to 2018, representing the Sweden Democrats. During his time in the Riksdag, he was active in the Industry and Trade Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the EU Committee. He also served in the Swedish delegation to the Council of Europe from 2015 to 2019.
In addition to his national and European roles, Nissinen was a member of the Värnamo City Council from 2010 to 2019. Upon joining the European Parliament in 2022, he took over from Jessica Stegrud and focused on industry and energy policy, healthcare, women’s rights and gender equality, as well as economic and monetary affairs.

Anne Marie Pellerin

With decades of deep and diverse experience in the homeland security and aviation sectors, Anne Marie combines strategic thinking and technical know-how to government and industry leaders on some of the most pressing challenges and promising opportunities in her area of expertise.
She also leads the LAM LHA enterprise with a focus on strategy and creating win-wins across the ecosystem.
Anne Marie is uniquely positioned to navigate US, European, and global regulatory environments, and related trends.

Senior Expert with 20 years+ of experience in the security field acquired through high-level managerial roles in the public administration and private sector.
Extensive in-depth knowledge of border control and policy; large-scale IT Systems; inter-operability of US-EU level databases.
Current role involves regular contact with EU Member States; European Commission (DG HOME and DG MOVE); and U.S regulators.

At VEMUN , an expert guest speaker will intervene in each committee and present a crisis situation for delegates to debate. This interaction with an expert who has had some real policy-making experience will be a particularly enriching experience for delegates.
